Doula Initiative Stipend and Reimbursement Information
This webpage is a resource for Doulas that attended a MDHHS sponsored Doula Training. If you attended an approved Doula Training, congratulations on taking the first steps to change birth outcomes in your community and the state of Michigan! You may qualify for the following stipend and/or reimbursement:
- Stipend – Participants can receive $20/hour for up to 30 hours.
- Hotel Reimbursement – for in-person trainings, up to $135/night for participants traveling over 55 miles one-way to training location.
- Mileage Reimbursement – for in-person trainings, for participants traveling over 55 miles one-way to training location.
Reimbursement Submission Checklist
To qualify for reimbursement, you will need to meet the following requirements:
- Michigan resident, 18+
- Have not previously participated in an MDHHS-sponsored doula training.
- Intend to serve Medicaid-eligible families.
- New to the doula workforce.
- Submit a training evaluation. (Please only submit the evaluation once. The link may have been shared by your trainer, but can also be found here: MDHHS Doula Training Evaluation.)
Payment Processing Timeframe
- Step 1: Forms and documents are completed and submitted by participant within 30 days of the completion of the training.
- Step 2: Submission will be reviewed to make sure it includes all required information and has no errors. If submission has missing/incomplete information or needs revisions, this will delay the timeframe for payment.
- Step 3: Checks will be cut by the Michigan Public Health Institute.
- Step 4: Checks are mailed to address on W-9 within 4 weeks of submission.
